In doing so they work to implement an approved learning framework within the requirements of the Education and Care Services National Regulations and the National Quality Standard.

In order to attain the CHC50113 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care, students must satisfactorily complete 28 units of competency, consisting of 23 core units and 5 elective units of competency.

There are no specified entry requirements into this qualification within the training package however, Elite Training Institute requires candidates to:

  • Be aged 18 years or over at commencement of course.
  • Hold a current Victorian Working with Children Check or will be able to attain this within 8-12 weeks of enrolling into the course.
  • Have sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills to read and comprehend learning materials and perform tasks related to the childcare industry. For this purpose, Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) test will be undertaken before commencement of training. The student must score ACSF level 3 to gain entry into the qualification.
  • Have physical capacity to be able to work as an educator in early childhood education sector. Please note that students are required to complete 240 hours of work placement in a regulated education and care service.

Students accessing Skills First funding will be required to undergo an eligibility assessment and a comprehensive pre-training review to ensure this is suitable and appropriate course based on their learning needs, career objectives, and aspirations.

Childhood Education Manager

By completing your formal skills assessment in Diploma of early childhood education and care you are qualified in creating programs that improve the development of children at managing Carers, managing physical childcare facilities and complying with government child care requirements, standards in developing and implementing programs to enhance the physical, social, emotional and intellectual development of young children.

Outside School Hours Coordinator

Outside School Hours Coordinators are responsible for the day-to-day operation of a before and after school care and/or vacation care service through planned activities, implementing of the approved weekly program and managing holistic developmental programs for an effective and fulfilling duty of care to children. You will have responsibility for the supervision and mentoring of your staff and volunteers in facilitating early childhood education compliance and promote care services to children outside their school hours.

Students who completed CHC50113 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care at Elite Training Institute you will find yourselves working in a range of education and care settings, or with school aged children in outside school hours care and vacation programs.

Students may also like to continue their formal training into a range of higher education qualifications.

Classroom Training

This program is classroom-based delivery (weekdays or weekend classes available) combined with work placement requirements.

Students are required to attend classroom sessions for a 73-weeks period (excluding holidays).

Program Unique Supervised Hours (PUSH) set for this Qualification are 973 hours.

Self-Directed Learning: Students will need to devote few hours of self-directed learning each week during the 80 weeks period. This includes undertaking self-studies, research, development of portfolios, completing assessment tasks and work placement. Total hours recommended for self-directed learning are 812 hours.

Work Placement: Students enrolled in the CHC50113 – Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care are required to complete at least 240 hours of work experience in a regulated early childhood education and care setting performing the requirements outlined in a number of the units of competency. This may be at a long day Centre or at a family day care facility.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Involves a formal recognition of the skills and knowledge student have already achieved through previous studies, work and life experiences. Assessment of RPL takes into account:

  • Work-related training courses
  • On-the-job skills and work experience
  • Volunteer and community work
  • A combination of all of the above

Credit Transfer

Credit transfer is a process that provides students with agreed and consistent credit outcomes for components of a qualification based on identified equivalence in content and learning outcomes between matched qualifications.

If students have previous relevant experience, where RPL is awarded, the total volume of learning may be reduced below the Australian Qualifications Framework Indicators.

Alternatively, for new entrants or inexperienced students, timeframes may need to be increased to allow sufficient time to acquire required skills and knowledge.
